Manual High School Celebrates Freshmen

The 'Bolts Are Back Community Event Brings

Support to High School's Freshman Class.

The first annual 'Bolts Are Back spirit day kicks off on May 9 to celebrate the current class of ninth graders at Manual High School.

Destination 2011, a free fund raising breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Manual Thunderdome, will honor the current freshmen, who will graduate in 2011. Attendees have an opportunity to hear from Principal Rob Stein about the plans for Manual and several different students about their experience as a Thunderbolt in this new era at Manual.

The Manual Alumni and Community Happy Hour is an informal gathering of alumni and other friends and neighbors who want to be involved in the Manual community. It will take place from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Bogey's Restaurant at City Park Golf Course.

"Friends of ManualHigh School is sponsoring a day of community building to share in the recent successes and plans for the future of Manual High School," said Manual alumna Elbra Wedgeworth. "As a Manual Alumni (1974), I am very pleased with the progress at Manual High and am proud of the staff and students. The legacy of the school is very important to many residents."

Notable Manual High School alumni include former Mayor Wellington and Wilma Webb, Elbra Wedgeworth and current Manual High School Principal Rob Stein.

Stein, a respected school leader in Colorado, is guiding the school into its new era, where students will find an environment that supports their learning and development and that is centered on high expectations and opportunities.

Denver Public Schools (DPS) believes Manual High School will emerge as a premier high school in Denver and is committed to give continuous support to its students. By the 2010-2011 school year, Manual will be a fully developed 9 th- through 12 th-grade high school.

Friends of Manual High School is an organization dedicated to supporting the academic achievement and high school experience of students at Manual. Those who are unable to attend The 'Bolts are Back events on May 9 but who still wish to make a contribution to Friends of Manual can make checks payable to Friends of Manual High School, 1700 E. 28th Ave., Denver, CO 80205.
