Denver Chicano artist Jerry Vigil will be exhibiting at the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum's Annual "
El Dia de los Muertos Exhibit, Rooted in Tradition" from Sept. 10 through Dec. 10.
The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, located in Chicago, is the largest Latino Museum in the US and theo nly Latino museum accredited by the AAM.
The pieces that will be exhibited are Jerry's calaveras, or skeletons, which he paints a signature colbalt blue. A contemporary use of the traditional Day of the Dead calaveras, that Jerry places in modern scenes such as a calavera Cholo next to the front end of a 64 Impala or a Palatero (ice cream man) calavera.
"They live some where between fine art and folk art" says Jerry, "keeping the tradition alive and well in the 21st century.
