July is going to be sort of a crazy month on my blog, so I thought I'd give everyone a quick update on the sorts of things you'll be seeing over the next few weeks. There's tons of stuff planned, some of which has been in the work for months, so be sure to check everything out!
First off, there will continue to be the normal movie reviews posted whenever I see movies. I've been in Canada on a fishing trip for the last week, which is why there haven't been any reviews lately. However, now that I'm back, I'm planning on seeing Michael Mann's
Public Enemies today, so look for a review of that up later. But if you were waiting to hear about my thoughts for
Ice Age 3, then you'll be disappointed. Generic animated sequels aren't really my cup of tea.
Now, here's my big, special announcement that I've been waiting to make for a while now. Starting this Wednesday, July 8
th, I'll begin publication of a six-part article called
It's Like Magic: Reflections on the Harry Potter Phenomenon. This article is in celebration of the new film hitting theaters on July 15
th, and it's something I've wanted to write for a while. In the article, I take a look back on all seven books, the hype surrounding them, memories of waiting in line to buy the new installment, and finally, review all five films that have been made up to this point. It was a big undertaking, and writing on the article began back in February. It's a huge piece, so it will be published in six parts released once a day from Wednesday to Tuesday (the 14
th), with my review of the new movie hitting the web on Wednesday, July 15
th. If you remember my
Holy Franchise Batman! article from last year, then you'll know roughly what to expect, but
It's Like Magic is much bigger in scope. I hope everyone enjoys it. Once the article has been published in full, a PDF file of the uncut article (which includes some extra passages and footnotes) will be made available to the public, though if you'd like the PDF earlier than that, send me a private message through YourHub with your e-mail address and I'm sure I could oblige.
In the midst of all this, there will still be other posts.
Chuck Me Mondays will continue (a new one up tomorrow!) for a good long while (the show doesn't return until March, so we've got time to fill). Meanwhile, the new
Monthly Ten list will be up on Friday the 10
th; this month's topic is about extended cuts of movies on DVD, and I did something a bit different that should hopefully make things a bit more interesting.
Anyway, that's what to look for here on the blog in July. I hope that readers have enjoyed some of the new columns I've added like
Monthly Ten and
Chuck Me Mondays, and I'd like to use this time to ask for YOUR thoughts on these additions. Please use the comment feature, or send me a private message, and tell me what you think of these columns, as well as your thoughts on big articles like
It's Like Magic. Suggestions for improvements or even ideas for new columns are always welcome and appreciated. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy my barrage of posts throughout July!
