A letter was recently received from a Colorado School of Mines graduate thanking the Christian Action Guild for being there when he was in need. He stated: "If it had not been for your organization, I probably would have had to drop out of college as I had no food, no money, and no support mechanism at the time." Sixteen years later and he remembered us and "paid it forward". Nothing makes you feel better than knowing you helped someone who needed it and knowing you made a difference

Are you aware that there is a food bank in Golden? The number of local people who have no idea it exists always amazes me. The Christian Action Guild was incorporated in 1966 as a non-denominational, all volunteer, 501C(3), non-profit organization dedicated to providing crisis assistance to those in need in the Golden community.

The Guild is currently experiencing a financial crisis of its own. Costs, along with numbers of people in need, have been rising. Funds have been diminishing. In an effort to meet the challenge of those growing numbers, our mission remains to serve. The Guild is a small, local, all volunteer organization dedicated to raising the quality of life for those in need in our community-our neighbors.

Presently, the main focus of the Guild is to provide food through our food bank to families and individuals who have been identified and referred by appropriate sources throughout the community. We also operate a Thrift Shop, a back-to-school program, and a Santa shop where parents can "shop" at no cost to them. Also provided when financial circumstances allow, are clothing, medical, rents, and financial assistance.

Again, our numbers continue to increase. The bad economy isn't news any more. One generic bag of food costs between $22 and $25 using products carefully purchased and packed by volunteers. Special dietary needs increase that cost.

We would like to thank all the loyal donors, individuals and groups, who have been the lifeblood of our organization. The Guild maintains a positive working relationship with the Golden city government, including the police and fire departments, local schools, churches, businesses, Social Services and civic organizations. We could not do what we do without you.

Finally, this is a plea to remember the Christian Action Guild when you are considering giving back in your community. Come visit us. See what we are all about. We need volunteers. We need food. We need money. Everything that comes into the Guild goes back into the community. We have NO paid positions. How many organizations can say that?
