Denver Quilter Defines the 21st Century Keepsake
Contributed by: Sara Musfeldt on 2/26/2008

Some may say quilting is a lost art, but after 45 years of sewing and quilting, Beth Lancaster of Moonlight Quilts will fight you with her needles to prove otherwise.

"When I say fight you with my needles, what I really mean is 'wow you with my needle work to prove that quilts today can be just as useful and special as they were for our mothers,'" Lancaster said. "I cringe when I hear people say it is a lost art because I know from my customers that it's alive and well."

Lancaster has a motto that she tells customers and herself often: " I don't make generic quilts of average quality-I make heirloom quality quilts with artistic flair."

This motto is seen on the company's recently launched Web site, www.moonlightquilts.com to highlight the custom quilt work that has in the last ten years given her and her company a national following. Because Moonlight Quilt's touch is unique, thoughtful, and long-lasting it is difficult to find anything similar online or in quilting shops.

T-shirt quilts, which is a new concept to some, is one of the company's many strong suits. The t-shirt quilt incorporates the customer's history and passion into a custom-designed quilt by Moonlight. It's not just the t-shirts that make it custom, but the specially designed lattice-work that holds it all together. Everything from design to colors to stitch patterns makes this a keepsake with a message.

There are several retailers that provide such a service. However, because quilts by Moonlight Quilts are built by hand, the life of these quilts tend to last longer.

Not only will these quilts last longer, but if you choose, she can guarantee that it will be a one of a kind. Although Lancaster will work with a design of the customer's choice, she also creates her own patterns. This promises that your quilts will be one-of-a-kind for more than one reason.
