Community Shares Honored as Nonprofit of the Year

Denver, CO - Community Shares of Colorado, a community giving fund dedicated to connecting Coloradans to the causes and charities they care about most, will receive the 2007 Nonprofit Organization of the Year Award from the Colorado Business Council.

The Colorado Business Council is a statewide, equal-opportunity chamber of commerce comprised of gay and gay-supportive business owners and professionals. Each year, CBC recognizes outstanding individuals, corporations and nonprofit agencies that support the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community through leadership, business standards and community activity. This year's awardees have been chosen for their commitment to the GLBT community and for their successes.

Community Shares of Colorado is a cooperative community giving fund made up of 113 nonprofit organizations in Colorado engaged in inspiring individual philanthropy and community giving. The organization has a rich history as an advocate for promoting gay and lesbian social justice and direct service organizations, and was the first giving federation in Colorado to include GLBT-focused nonprofit organizations. Community Shares has an organizational culture that celebrates inclusiveness and diversity among its core values.

"Community Shares was formed in 1986 to expand workplace giving campaigns to include nonprofit organizations not traditionally included in high profile corporate funding drives, including groups working on gay and lesbian issues. Being recognized for our commitment to inclusive workplace giving by the Colorado Business Council is a particularly rewarding honor," said Community Shares Interim CEO Alyssa Kopf. "In addition, being able to announce this news on National Coming Out Day allows us to share this award with the entire GLBT and GLBT-friendly community."
