studioINSITE kicks off Metro State neighborhood
Contributed by: Michael Halliburton on 8/4/2008

Denver-based campus planning firm studioINSITE, hired in 2006 to produce the 20-year Master Plan governing the development of the 126-acre Auraria Higher Education Campus, has recently been commissioned to serve as lead planners on the Metropolitan State College of Denver Neighborhood Master Plan.

One of three institutions on the Auraria Campus, Metro State "is one of the largest public four-year colleges in the U.S." and boasts the "second-largest undergraduate student population in Colorado," according to its website. As its student body continues to grow, so does the demand for academic, administrative and student support spaces.

Prescribed under the Auraria Master Plan, each of the three institutions is to shape a part of the campus in its own unique image based on its particular mission, goals and priorities. In an effort to initiate the planning process, studioINSITE is working closely in conjunction with the Metro State Neighborhood Planning Committee, headed by Facilities Planner Sean Nesbitt, to evaluate the full range of real estate development beginning with a program plan for the first vertical construction.

The Metro State neighborhood is defined under the Auraria Master Plan as a seven-acre area of land along Auraria Parkway between 7th and 9th streets. The Metro State Neighborhood master planning process began in early April and is slated for completion by early September.

Established in 2001, studioINSITE is a national leader committed to the design of Meaningful and Memorable places. Its services range from master planning to design implementation in the areas of urban spaces, multifamily housing, mixed-use and transit-oriented developments, higher education and health care campuses, and civic and cultural facilities.
