Quarters for Kids Launches Campaign to Feed Denver Children
There's some serious power in the quarters you're about to drop into your change dish. Coupled with existing food donations, a quarter can feed a child a hearty breakfast at Volunteers of America's Brandon Center and Catholic Charities' Samaritan House. The
Quarters for Kids program promotes this idea and for 18 years, has garnered excitement among Front Range school children to help their less fortunate peers. The idea was cultivated by Denver's own Tammy and Noel Cunningham, chef and owner of Strings Restaurant.
On Wednesday, April 2, 2008 , UMB Bank, the annual sponsor for the drive, kicked off the drive with 20,000 quarters and invited students from Loyola Elementary School and Crest Hill Middle School. Children in schools throughout the Denver metro area are encouraged to participate by developing their own creative ideas to collect quarters. Past activities have included sponsored school dress-down days, bringing quarters from home, fashion shows, popcorn sales, and more.
Following the drive, children from participating schools will be invited to the Victory Breakfast at Strings where proceeds from the event will be collected. Each year the children are amazed at the incredible impact they will have on children in need and learn, first-hand, the benefits of giving.
