Camping club offers trips for singles
Contributed by: Frances Taylor on 2/2/2007

Loners on Wheels (LOW) is an international club of single campers with more than 50 local chapters in the US and Canada, and over 2500 members. LoW will celebrate it's 38th birthday in 2007.

LoWs are single because of death, divorce, choice or other circumstances. They travel in motor homes, trailers, fifth wheels, vans or other recreational vehicles to local and far away campouts in National Forest and Parks, State Parks, Private parks or , in some cases, no park at all. (that's called boondocking or dry camping) LOW by-laws stipulate that members must be legally single, no two people of the opposite sex (except blood relatives) are permitted to occupy the same rig at an official LOW function. We promote the mingling aspect of single life and are not a dating club.

There are tours, caravans, rallys, winter camps, holiday get togethers and many other opportunities to make new friends. They dance, have potlucks, eat out, hike, play games, watch the clouds and participate in various social functions. LoW headquarters are located in Deming, New Mexico at a campground called "The Ranch" owned by the club.

The Colorado Hi-LoWs are a chapter of Lones on Wheels Inc. Although an exact charter date for the Hi-LoWs is not available, we know that it dates back almost 30 years. Members come from throughout the state to a 5 day campout each month from May through October. Each campout is "hosted" by one or two members who plan the activities for the campout. In winter we meet for lunch once a month in Castle Rock at the Village Inn. Prospective chapter members must first join the National club and are invited to visit up to three functions of the chapter before they are required to join. Chapter membership dues are $7.00 per year, Dues are used to pay the expense of a by-monthly newsletter, campout and other expenses.

You will find Hi-LOW campouts to be very relaxed and flexible. We meet for morning coffee, afternoon social hour, evening camp fire and potluck lunch on Saturday. This leaves plenty of time for individual pursuits and impromptu or other activities which may be planned by the host. Although mostly retired, some of our members are still employed. Ages range from young to young in spirit, all with a love of camping and enthusiasm for adventure. Volunteers carry the organization as officers, campout hosts and in many other capacities. The National By-Laws govern the local chapter although we may set additional guidelines which apply only at the chapter level. Please join us!
