Prepare for "Dump Your Significant Jerk" Week
Contributed by: Jennifer Oikle, Ph.D. on 1/29/2007

Valentine's Day is for couples happily in love. But what if you're unhappily committed to your significant other?

"Everyone knows that Valentine's day can be depressing for singles, but it can be even more distressing for people in less than rosy relationships. Imagine that you lost that loving feeling, what are you celebrating then? A memory long gone?," said Jennifer Oikle, Ph.D., psychologist and relationship coach.

But the stark contrast between the ideal represented by that heart shaped box of chocolates and the real relationship may be just the push a person needs to finally ditch a dead end partnership. That's the purpose of the Dump Your Significant Jerk week (February 4 th- 9 th). If a relationship hasn't been satisfying for a while and nothing is changing, it's time to face the facts that this isn't the right partner for you. By letting go and moving on, you are actually creating space for real love to enter your life. That way, by February 14 th, you can celebrate a fresh beginning, one that can include the love you really deserve.

So with your clean slate, how can you be sure to avoid the same predicament next Valentine's Day? A new Colorado Free University workshop, Soulmate or Stalemate?: 6 Keys To Finding Your Perfect Partner, is poised to help people understand why they get stuck in unfulfilling relationships in the first place and learn powerful ways to create the love they dream about.

"In teaching this workshop my goal is to empower people to identify the underlying reasons that they tolerate less than stellar partnerships and give them the tools to break free from the patterns of the past. With insight and skills, all of us can create a fulfilling and beautiful love," stated Dr. Oikle.

That, after all, is at the heart of Valentine's Day. And for less than the cost of a dozen roses, you can give yourself the best gift of all: a new beginning.

The Soulmate or Stalemate class is being offered through Colorado Free University on Monday February 5 th, 6:30- 9:00 pm, Sunday March 18 th, 2:30-5:00 pm, and Tuesday April 24 th, 6:30-9:00 pm. Cost is $44 for non-members and $39 for members. To enroll online visit: http://www.freeu.com/classes/4913.html.
