Be Careful Who You Tease in High School
Contributed by: Tami Robertson on 11/26/2006

It's not nice to tease people anyway, but it seems to come naturally to kids, especially in high school.

As I stated, be careful who you tease in high school, but I didn't finish the title. It would go on as "because he might end up being your mortgage broker"! : )

I graduated in 1984 from Greeley West High School, so now I'm a grown up (or at least I try to act like one). I will never forget sitting next to Jenny B., the class clown, in biology class. She was loud, funny and obnoxious as most class clowns are. Some of that rubbed off onto me as we became good friends in Mr. Motis' Biology class. Unfortunately, it was at the expense of one cute, shy kid in the class named "Gilbert".

I'll never forget when we had to dissect the fetal pigs in that biology class. Of course, Jenny ended up naming our fetal pig "Gilbert". Oh what fun we had with "Gilbert". We would tie red ribbons around Gilberts little fetal pig tail and show the whole class how "Gilbert" looked in a pig tail. This kind of thing went on and on and Gilbert became the "name" and the "blame"of any and everything that was funny in that class. This went on all year and longer if Gilbert was unlucky enough to get into a class with the both of us together.

Poor Gilbert. He never lost his cool, he always smiled sweetly and blushed as the class was laughing (mostly at what Jenny said). Never an unkind word from Gilbert about anyone.

Well, the 20 year reunion has now since passed (funny, I don't FEEL 42). Lo and behold, my husband and I were looking for a sound system for our 2005 "Brighton parade of lights" float in Denver one weekend. I spotted a suspicious "Gilbert-looking" person in the store. He looked exactly like he looked in high school, but he didn't recognize me. I had to tell him who I was. His jaw dropped and he gave me the biggest hug I think I'd ever had. I said.. "Aren't you still mad at me for haranguing you so much in high school?".

He said, "nah, I never was". It was all in fun. That was a testiment to what a nice guy Gilbert is and was.

Come to find out, Gilbert married one of the most popular girls from the opposing school in Greeley, but was now remarried to another pretty lady. The reason I know this is that Gilbert's and my circle run very close to each other as we both have kids in competitive dance so we see each other at competitions.

By the way, Jenny B. ended up being a COP of all things. I'm sure she's a good cop and a funny cop. That would be an odd combination, I think.

Gilbert is a DJ in Denver and also a mortgage broker. He'll be my next mortgage broker. : ) I'd recommend him to anyone. I didn't use last names here but Gilbert, if you're out there, post a note here and let people know how to get in touch with you when they need a refinance. Let everyone else know what a great guy you are!
