More than ever, this year I wanted my Christmas to be an American Christmas. I always look for American products made by American workers, but I thought it would be especially nice and especially poignant to do it at Christmas time when buying gifts for family and friends. I was surprised at the abundance I found.
Some things were easy to find. For the younger children on my list, I purchased United States Mint Proof Sets featuring the first four presidential dollars. Other young people on my list got Proof Silver Eagles. For the older kids who might not have appreciated the coin sets, I went to the bank and acquired United States Government Gift Certificates.
The United States Government Gift Certificates are readily available almost anywhere and come in a variety of denominations. They don't cost anything more than face value, they never expire andany size fits all. I love that they all have a picture of a famous American landmark on the back and another picture of a famous American on the front. I found the ones featuring Grant and Franklin to be the most popular.
For other people, family and friends, I purchased American made food, clothing and beverages. I found American coffee from Hawaii, along with a wide assortment of teas and chocolate. I shared my love of Louisiana and New Orleans by sending cajun gift packs featuring Gumbo and Jambalaya mixes straight from the "Big Easy". I even had to buy some for myself.
I was really surprised at the assortment of American and Union made clothing I discovered. I found every type of clothing imaginable including shoes and blue jeans, all made right here in the US of A. I am not sure if the blue jeans are Union made, but I am going to give them a try anyway. Many of the other clothing choices were made with organically grown American fibers, but some were made from textiles of foreign origin.
Yeah, I spent a bucket of money, but I am very pleased. I am so happy to support my country this way and to send a message to folks around me that we can all go a long way toward keeping America strong buy supporting each other in our work. I made a lot of people happy this Christmas, but none was as happy as I. God Bless Us Everyone.
(If you would like a list of the websites I found, you can use any search engine to find the same assortment I did, or you can email me and I will be happy to point you in the American direction)
