Lowry struts its stuff for new families
Contributed by: Anne McDonald on 12/17/2007

President, Lowry PTO

Just before Thanksgiving break, Lowry Elementary School hosted a well-attended and well-received Open House for prospective families.
More than 30 guests were welcomed by parents, teachers and student escorts who led tours and answered many questions. Families had an opportunity to visit with both classroom teachers and the principal, Cari Riedlin, and view the video"Where Eagles Soar: The Story of Lowry Elementary", which so beautifully tells the story of our school community.
It was wonderful to see so many families from the neighborhood who are planning to bring their children to Lowry Elementary School. It was also telling that a number of "choice" families attended the open house, reflecting the excellent reputation that Lowry Elementary has within the Denver Public Schools district.
Many families are in the decision-making process and are currently visiting various schools. If you know a family who is currently looking at school options, please have them call 303-340-0179 to set up a tour and schedule a meeting with the principal Mrs. Riedlin. Current Lowry Elementary parents would be delighted to speak with these families as well. We will also provide you with a newly created, information-packed school brochure and video to share with your neighbors and friends. Please contact Kim Jacobs in the school office to get a copy.
If your child is starting ECE or kindergarten in August 2008, please come to Lowry Elementary to register between January 7, 2008 and January 31, 2008. DPS determines the number of teachers hired for the beginning of the school year and the number of "choice" slots available to children choicing in to Lowry from outside the 80230 neighborhood based on the number of neighborhood children who register in January, so by registering then, you help us keep the student/teacher ratio as low as possible.
Residing in 80230 guarantees only a half-day kindergarten spot for your child. Both ECE and full-day kindergarten programs fill quickly,so if you would like to enroll your child in either of those programs, it is especially important that you registerduring January.
