Catholic school graduates have little if any trouble
remembering the experience of a Catholic school education. One
gradually develops an appreciation for the predictability of a
school uniform, and prayer before every class becomes a given.
Earlier this year, Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M. Cap.,
declared 2006 the Year of the CatholicSchool. The effort celebrates
the 142-year history of Catholic education in the Denver
Archdiocese and invites the community to take another look at
Catholic schools.
More than 30 Catholic schools in Denver will provide an
opportunity to do so during an Open House Weekend set May 6-7.
Times vary at the individual schools.
"We truly believe that Denver's Catholic schools are an
investment in the future of our children and our Catholic faith,"
said Catholic schools Superintendent Richard Thompson.
The campaign, launched by Thompson's office, sites several
compelling facts. Parents of students in Catholic schools are
confident that their children will experience more complete
development. They also believe that the Catholic school environment
ensures their child unsurpassed academic and personal
success.
Parents tend to value a Catholic school not only for its
dedication to the Catholic faith, but also for how it continuously
reinforces family values and maintains rigorous academics.
The Open House gives parents an opportunity to visit the
school in their neighborhood, to meet the principal and teaching
staff, and to seek the opinion of parents already enrolled at the
school.
"Up to this point, we've been building a greater awareness of
Catholic schools, reminding people of the principles that guide our
teachers," Thompson said. "Now, with this Open House Weekend, we
invite parents to visit one of our schools and see the 'mission in
motion.'"
There is still time, he added, to register children for the
2006-2007 school year.
