WHS Students make money in Mock Stock
Contributed by: Julie Sigmund on 10/10/2006

West High School students attended the Junior Achievement Stock Market Challenge on Thursday, October 5, 2006. This high-energy event was sponsored by The Allstate Foundation.

WHS entered 5 teams and welcomed 2 home school students to join and compete againsta total of 48teams fromall overColorado. It was a fast-paced and exciting experience for these young investors.

The object and rules of the challenge:
Each team started with $500,000 in stock and cash, and in two 30-minutes periods, each minute equaled one day. Students watched, analyzed, decided and traded their stock to ultimately increase their portfolio value.

The results of the challenge:
Four of the five teams increased their portfolio value. Our top team ended with a portfolio value of $829,360.38. That's a 65.87% increase in 60 days! WHS students know how to invest and make money!

Great job to all the students who participated!
