On April 25th the Commerce City Youth Orchestra attended the Colorado High School Activities Association's (CHSAA) annual Large Group Festival. High school orchestras from all over the Denver metro area traveled to the Denver School of the Arts on April 24th and 25th to perform and be critiqued by three music directors from around the state. This was the first year the CCYO attended the CHSAA festival. The CCYO is proud to announce they received an "Excellent" rating both on their prepared performance as well as their sight-reading performance. The CCYO traveled to the festival in order to obtain feedback about their current performance level but were pleased with the judges rating for their overall performance. The orchestra's trip was made possible by a generous donation by the Commerce City Cultural Council.
If you would like to hear the Commerce City Youth Orchestra perform, their CHSAA performance pieces as well as additional music attend their annual Spring Community Concert on May 22nd at 7:00 PM in the Little Theater at Adams City High School. The CCYO with perform excerpts from the Magic Flute, Emperor Waltz, and many others. This concert is free and open to the public. Make sure to join the CCYO members and their parents for refreshments after the concert to celebrate all of their successes this year.
Any students interested in joining CCYO for the 2007-2008 season should contact the music director, Mr. Joseph Verbeke at 303-339-0742 or the CCYO Executive Director at ccyoexecutivedirector@yahoo.com. Lastly, while the CCYO continues to provide positive arts enrichment to many of the youth in Adams County, the CCYO continues to seek sponsorship from community businesses and organizations. We hope you will join us for our Spring Concert, to end the 2006-2007 season on a high note.
