CCU Professor Releases New Book
Contributed by: Colorado Christian University on 1/25/2007

January, 2007 - Colorado Christian University (CCU) administrator and professor Dr. James Howard recently released his first full-length book, "Paul, the Community, and Progressive Sanctification: An Exploration into Community-Based Transformation with Pauline Theology." The text is an updated and revised copy of the author's doctoral dissertation which was completed in 2004.

Dr. Howard's book addresses the biblical concept of sanctification, the positive and holy change brought about by God within people who place their faith in Him. Howard argues that Christian growth-particularly in the Pauline writings-requires community, rather than the individualized, lone-ranger approach of the sort that has found root in many parts of the Western church. For the apostle Paul, the focus of God's transforming activity culminates within the context of community in order to reveal God's glory to the broader creation.

"Paul, the Community, and Progressive Sanctification" is being distributed throughout the United States and Europe by Peter Lang Publishing Group. The book has already received strong reviews from scholars including Dr. Philip H. Towner, Director of Translation Services for the United Bible Societies, who views it as "the most lucid and carefully argued case for the role of human Christian community in its ongoing transformation into the image of God."

Howard holds a Doctor of Philosophy in New Testament Studies and a master's degree in theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, as well as an MBA in finance and accounting from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He has directed CCU's Southern Colorado Center and been an associate professor of biblical studies at the University since 2005. Since 2000, he has also been Visiting Professor of New Testament at LIFE Institute in Madurai, India, where he recently taught a course at the institute and conducted a pastor's conference for the Church of South India. A former missionary to Germany with Cadence International, Dr. Howard currently resides as a chairperson on the organization's board of directors.
