CCU Psychology Chair Promoted to Associate Prof.
Contributed by: Colorado Christian University on 4/5/2007

Lakewood, Colorado - Colorado Christian University's (CCU) current Department of Psychology Chair, Dr. Ronald D. Welch, has been promoted to the position of Associate Professor of Psychology. He will assume the new role on July 1, 2007.

Making the announcement was Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Cherri Parks. "Ron Welch brings years of professional practice into the classroom," said Parks. "He is a practitioner as well as an educator, and this benefits every one of his students."

Welch joined CCU in 2003 and took over chairmanship of the Department of Psychology in March of 2006. His wealth of experience, education, and energy will continue to provide the University with strong leadership and teaching expertise.

"I congratulate Dr. Welch on his promotion," stated CCU President Bill Armstrong. "He has earned the respect of faculty and students."

Dr. Welch graduated summa cum laude with a degree in psychology and communications from the University of Denver in 1986. He continued his education at Central Michigan University, earning both an M.A. (1989) and Psy.D. in clinical psychology (1996).

Presenting in both university and professional settings such as the Rocky Mountain Psychological Association, Dr. Welch has spoken on a diversity of topics including the spiritual maturation of college students and the effects of conformity, justice, and forgiveness on moral judgment. His scholarly publications provide research and analysis in several areas such as conflict resolution in marriage and family, and Christian higher education.

Speaking to his current research-which focuses on the development of spiritual maturity in faith-based university settings-Welch explained, "I am particularly interested in the processes that lead students to develop a more mature faith through Christian higher education." He hopes to discover how that spiritual maturity affects students' relationship behavior.

In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Welch maintains a private counseling practice, consisting primarily of marital and family work, with Southwest Counseling Associates. He also works as a youth sports coach and enjoys musical performance and spending time with his two sons and wife of nearly 21 years.
