Contributed by: Colorado Christian University on 5/2/2007

Colorado Christian University (CCU) - At a dinner ceremony held in his honor, retiring theology professor Dr. Woodrow "Woody" Northcutt was recently granted the title of Emeritus Professor of Theology. The event took place on April 21, 2007, at the University's main campus in Lakewood, Colorado.

CCU President Bill Armstrong, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Cherri Parks, and School of Theology Dean Dr. Jeffrey Mallinson presided during the evening which was filled with fond memories of Northcutt's impacting career.

In honor of his service, CCU has introduced the T. Woodrow Northcutt Scholarship Endowment. The fund will provide financial assistance to theology students intending to pursue careers in the church. Those who are interested in donating to the fund should contact Dr. Mallinson at 303.963.3164 or jmallinson@ccu.edu, or contact the CCU Office of Development at 303.963.3330 or development@ccu.edu.

"Dr. Northcutt's commitment to church and academy has deeply influenced the School of Theology," Mallinson stated. "I trust that God will grant future generations of faculty and students the strength to carry forward his legacy."

Joining CCU in 1986, Dr. Northcutt served until 1997 as Campus Minister and from then on as a member of the theology faculty. He was promoted from associate to full professorship in 2001. Northcutt earned a bachelor's degree in biblical studies from Hardin-Simmons University in 1961, and in 1965 completed a Master of Divinity in New Testament Studies from Southwestern Baptist University. In 2000, he received his Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Studies from Denver Seminary.

A member of the American Academy of Religion, Society of Biblical Literature, and Evangelical Theological Society, Dr. Northcutt pastored several churches in Colorado, South Dakota, Montana, and Texas before coming to CCU. He received CCU's Most Inspirational Teacher Award in 1998 and 1999, the Apple Award for Teaching in 2000, and was inducted into the University's Hall of Fame in 2005.

"[Dr. Northcutt] was passionate not only about the subjects he taught, but about life in its entirety," said 2006 alum Phil Nyhof. "He listened to people and genuinely cared about my life as a student and a fellow human being."

Senior classman Terah Vail commented, "Dr. Northcutt has contributed to the spiritual, emotional, and intellectual growth of innumerable students. He is not only an academic, but also a teacher of spiritual growth and the integration of faith into education and life. He will be remembered for many years to come."
