David Burtonhas something you need to see. It's big, it's bold, and in the eye of the right beholder, hopefully beautiful.
David Burton is an emerging local artist currently residing in the metro area who has a passion for creating exciting work. One look at these large paintings and the influences of abstract expressionism, color field painting, and graffiti art become apparent. In painting after painting, bold sweeping lines work their way across the canvas throughout chunks of color and intricate shapes. The color is vivid and the shapes are each unique unto themselves. In some works the movement is defined by an initial layout with a spray can; In others the movement is based off of ten minute studies on paper. When seen the works have the ability so suck in the viewer with their intense color and refined movement. This is clearly a style of work that is unique amongst itself, something the artist is very proud of. Although David has a deep respect and understanding for the masters of the previous century,he feels he needs to create a style for his own if he is to be recognized. He might be doing just that.
David is coming off his first solo exhibition at Kuita Art Gallery in Denver, which received numerous amounts of positive feedback. Next up for David is a showing of work at Creative Art and Design Gallery (870 Santa Fe Dr). The gallery opening is Friday, Feb. 1, 2008 from 7 to 10 p.m. The show is free and will run through Feb. 28. All are welcome to stop by, check out the work and meet the artist.
