How do you make a Christmas tree out of toilet paper? What is the tragic life of a Thanksgiving turkey really like? What were the coolest toys under the tree in 1956?
These and other burning questions will be answered Thursday night, Nov. 29 when the Charles Phoenix
RETRO HOLIDAY SLIDE SHOW comes to Denver!
Charles Phoenix, winner ofa coveted "Best of L.A." award, travels from LaLa Land with his hilarious supercharged version of the classic living room slide show. Phoenix culls slides from his gigantic collection - gathered from thrift stores and estate sales - to illustrate how we decorated, dressed up, dined, drank and smoked during the holidays in the 1940s, '50s, '60s and '70s.
It's a laugh-out-loud funny celebration of mid-century Americanholiday culture, that goes beyond Christmas for an overview of all the holidays we hold most dear. Celebrate New Year's with the most bizarre rose floats ever; Easter mixing cocktails in a motel bathroom and 4th of July fireworks at Disneyland. Carve a jack-o-lantern with a suburban dad and dress up for Halloween. Then live the tragic life of a Thanksgiving turkey. Attend a Christmas bondage party, andlearn how to make a toilet paper Christmas tree. Visit Santa's Village, on of the country'smost bizarre theme parks, and see who got the best toys on Christmas morning! And it's all IN COLOR!
The
RETRO HOLIDAY SLIDE SHOW will be held, appropriately, in a nostalgic venue that has been dubbed a "historical Landmark:" The

The auditorium features a huge wooden stage with red velvet curtains, an astonishing array of original art deco accents and even a balcony! What better place to relive childhood memories than in an elementary school auditorium?
