Marceline Freeman has been an integral part of the power, beauty and passion of Cleo Parker Robinson Dance for over three decades. As a member of the Ensemble, she has taught around the world and many of her students have gone on to perform, choreograph and direct for major companies around the nation. A brilliant performer, Ms. Freeman has been a favorite of many choreographers who have set work on the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble. She has performed feature and soloist roles in works choreographed by Cleo Parker Robinson, Katherine Dunham, Donald McKayle, Milton Myers, Eleo Pomare, Rod Rodgers, Chuck Davis and David Rousseve. In 1998 she was featured twice in the solo "Levee Blues" from Donald McKayle's "Blood Memories" receiving rave reviews from
The New York Times for her interpretation of the piece. In 2001, Ms. Freeman traveled as a Cultural Specialist to Pretoria, South Africa, where she taught and set work on the Technikon Pretoria Dance Company. Most recently, Ms. Freeman served as choreographer for Israel Hicks production of "Selfish Sacrifice" for the Denver Center Theatre Company and assisted Ms. Parker Robinson in the creation of choreography for the "Father Panik Story" at Bridgeport's Playhouse in Bridgeport CT. The role of "Granny" in "Granny Dances to a Holiday Drum" was created for her and she brought this incredible and uplifting character to life on the stage for fourteen years. In December 2006 she appeared in the show as the mystical, ancestor Granny's Granny, again a role created specifically for her.
Marceline Freeman continues to serve as the guiding hand of the Ensemble, principal archivist of Ensemble repertoire and beloved sister-friend to Cleo Parker Robinson.
