The screenwriter's strike ended just in time for video and cinema students at the
Denver School of the Arts (DSA) to haul their red carpet out of mothballs and begin preparations for the 3rd Annual
"A Night with the Stars",a yearly celebration of all things Oscar.
This year, the date for the gala is February 24th. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. and conclude with the evening's awarding of the golden statuette for Best Picture.
Annually, eager emerging DSA student filmmakers gather on Oscar night to watch the movie industry's stars struttheir stuff in LA as Colorado filmmakers walk their own red carpet. Film students at this acclaimed Denver public school get their own stars along the walkway and the chance to stroll on red while local paparazzi take shots and camera flashes fire away.
"We were getting just a bit nervous about the extended strike," admits organizer Barbara Aldworth. "Oscar is much more fun when all the Hollywood famous slink by the live TV cameras in alltheir finery. A continued strike would have been bad news for Oscar parties all over the country."
In addition to lavish decorations,a carpet stroll and a chance to be immortalized in your finest, attendees getto view the awards ceremony on the BIG screen.
DSA's salute also features wonderful food and contests. Guests dine on fabulous burritos from
Chipotle and sumptuous desserts crafted by the culinarystudents at Johnson and Wales University. There's a contest for best frock plus fantastic door prizes.
Proceeds from the bash providedneeded cash for movie equipment used by the school's youth filmmakers.
Tickets are$11 per person and are available through
