Growing up and graduating in the Illinois area, Dr. David Sewell is quite a unique dentist. He resides in Highlands Ranch with a growing dental practice located off University Boulevard.
Dr. Sewell a man who cares not only for his patients, but also his faith and what he is blessed to do for those less fortunate. He travels every year to a village in Belize consisting of approximately 5,000 disregarded refugees from El Salvador. Belize, formerly known as British Honduras occupies 8,867 square miles of territory, and only 291,800 people according to a 2005 mid year estimate.
The mission Dr. Sewell teamed up with, is called the River of Life Ministries. Heart pressed for medical and dental attention, the refugees anticipate the arrival of Dr. Sewell and the team of doctors to help them. In fact, waiting in line for hours beneath the scalding sun does not deter them from treatment. The refugees are very kind and grateful for all Dr. Sewell does for them.
Parts of the jungle of Belize still remain primitive, and resources are extremely limited. A pipeline of water just recently installed to the village helped tremendously. Prior to the water access, villagers traveled by foot 8 miles to bring required water to their families to survive. There is no electric power to the villages. When Dr. Sewell takes his journey to Belize, generators, spare parts, and portable instruments must be shipped, not always guaranteeing their arrival in one piece.
Refugees in need of oral surgery is one of many challenges Dr. Sewell encounters. He must perform most of the surgeries without radiographs, yet Dr. Sewell prevails.
"These families depend on me and my dental knowledge and background, and I want to work out the best way possible for them," says Dr. Sewell, he continues, "I am moved by their perserverance and realize, and appreciate the ease of living that we have."
Dr. Sewell remains passionate about helping others with his dentistry, that over the years he purchased property in Belize to create a dental/medical facility for the refugees, so that both dentists and doctors can do their mission work on a more frequent basis.
His enthusiasm and dedication spills over to his patients in Highlands Ranch, like our family. He is very well educated on all the latest dental procedures. His staff is pleasant and helpful with insurance details. His office is equipped with video games to keep the kids busy, while other family members get teeth cleanings, etc.
In his spare time, Dr. Sewell is taking part in plays, and musicals to raise money for special need programs.
Feel free to contact Dr. David Sewell's office as he is accepting new patients at this time: 303-683-2300
