ReignDown USAApril 26 Day of Prayer
Denver, CO-March 23, 2008 - Governor Bill Ritter has declared Saturday, April 26, 2008a statewide Day of Prayer in Colorado and announced the state capitol as a site for a prayer gathering.
The governor made the declaration in connection with a nationwide observance called
Reign Down USA.
Reign Down USA is a grassroots, non-denominational movement to unite Christians in every state to pray for the restoration of our nation. The inspiration for the event came from a young woman who describes herself as "just a stay-at-home mom." Shawn-Marie Cole said God gave her a vision of a prayer and worship event based on a 2 Chronicles 7:14, which states,
"...if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." In this vision, she saw that as people gathered together in unity to pray and worship, there was "a healing of the land", a fulfillment of 2 Chronicles 7:14.
According to
Reign Down organizers, "We've all witnessed firsthand the threat of terrorism, national disaster, broken marriages, and moral decay in this country. We want to put God back in the center of our nation."
Prayers will be said for each state's respective governors, mayors, state employees, pastors/churches, teachers, and corporate and business leaders, eventually ending with prayer for personal needs.
The main prayer gathering will be in Washington, D.C. at the Washington National Mall, but Christians are encouraged to join local venues in their state and cities. Colorado's main assembly will be held at the state capitol on April 26, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. The national observance will be broadcast on satellite television and the internet.
