Friday, April 18th 2008 was an exciting day for the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch. This event was the dedication for the Irving Street Women's Residence located at 601 Irving St in west Denver.
The ceremony had an excellent group of speakers including Mayor Hickenlooper and the CEO of the Volunteers of America Colorado Branch Dianna L. Kunz and also some local official constituents.
The new women's residence is a warm and inviting new housing unit for homeless women who suffer from mental illness. This new HUD safe haven residence will provide services like case management, and the basic necessities of a safe place to stay for those willing to make the transition off the streets into a permanent living situation.
" We cannot solve our homelessness issues without the collaboration of organizations like VOA (Volunteers of America)," said Mayor Hickenlooper.
Resa Thomas is the Program Director for the women's residence and is looking forward to the challenges ahead. "These are women who need to pull their lives together, and here they will have the opportunity to do so," said Thomas.
"I am so impressed with what VOA does on a daily basis," said Dave Rye. "There have been 183,273 lives touched by this organization, and will continue with the women who will stay here at the Irving Street Residence."
