Single-Day Volunteerism Effort on May 3rd Donated More Than 16,000 Hours of Service to Denver Nonprofits; Comcast Cares Day Projects Brought Together 50,000 Volunteers Nationwide

On Saturday, May 3rd, more than 2,000 Denver-metro area Comcast employees, family members and friends volunteered at 16 community organizations in Denver as part of Comcast's seventh annual "Comcast Cares Day." One of Colorado's largest single-day corporate volunteerism efforts, Comcast's projects in the Denver-metro area provided a total of more than 16,000 hours of community service to local nonprofits.

In addition to the projects in Denver, Comcast Cares Day reached community organizations across Colorado with volunteer crews working at sites from Fort Collins to Carbondale to Pueblo. In total, more than 2,600 Comcast volunteers participated in projects statewide, donating a grand total of 20,800 volunteer hours in a single day.

For the Comcast Cares Day projects in the Denver-metro area, the company partnered with the Mile High United Way and Denver's Road Home to select leading nonprofit organizations that are making an impact.

Comcast employees in Denver were joined by local affiliates from the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) chapter as a national partner of Comcast Cares Day. NCLR volunteers lent a hand at Denver affiliate organizations MiCasa and Brothers Redevelopment projects on Comcast Cares Day.

"Denver's Road Home continues to enjoy a terrific partnership with Comcast," said Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper. "We are grateful for the leadership they have shown in creating community awareness and developing resources for homeless people in our community. Comcast Cares Day has become an integral part of Denver's Road Home, helping us engage scores of people in our efforts to end homelessness in ten years."

"When corporations organize and come together to help a community, it's tremendous what they can accomplish," added Richard Audsley, interim president of Mile High United Way. "Comcast Cares Day is one of the largest corporate volunteerism efforts in Colorado, and the fact that more than 16,000 hours of service were donated to Denver-area nonprofits is truly remarkable. Denver is fortunate to have such a strong community partner."

Comcast Cares Day is an annual nationwide volunteerism effort which brought together more than 50,000 Comcast employees and family volunteers in 2008. The last Comcast Cares Day drew more than 30,000 volunteers who donated a total of 180,000 hours of service - the equivalent of 20 years of service in one day.

"Comcast is proud to be an active member of the Denver community, and Comcast Cares Day is our commitment to improving the quality of life in communities we serve," said Scott Binder, senior vice president of Comcast Colorado. "There is nothing more rewarding than giving back, and I'm grateful to the more than 2,000 Comcast Cares Day volunteers who donated their time to help make a lasting impact on our community."

On May 3rd, volunteers dedicated their efforts to the following Denver-metro area community partners:

Brothers Redevelopment, Inc., Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Academy, Denver Children's Home, Denver Rescue Mission, Food Bank of the Rockies, Colorado Homeless Families, Volunteers of America, MiCasa, Montbello High School, Mount Saint Vincent's, Place Bridge Academy, Salvation Army, Urban League of Denver, Urban Peak, Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado at Chatfield Gardens, Warren Village

The Comcast Foundation donated more than $1.5 million in grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of each employee and family member who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
