Strings Restaurant and Volunteers of America Honor Senior Ladies on Mother's Day

There is special feeling when a woman is honored for being a mother, or like-a-mom, on Mother's Day and Noel Cunningham knows this. Each year on Mother's Day Cunningham opens the doors of Strings to honor and serve almost 200 senior ladies from the community in a Volunteers of America event called "I Remember Mama".

These women, who otherwise would have spent the day alone, share in a special camaraderie and sport alternately lovely and funny hats to the brunch. The special morning not only treats each lady to a complimentary seated brunch, but the women receive flowers, chocolates, and free transportation as well. The day was originally conceived as a fundraiser for Volunteers of America's R.S.V.P. program for senior volunteers.

Kaiser Permanente generously sponsors this event along with hundreds of individual donors contributing to a special keepsake book which is then sent to acherished mother. Metro Taxi, Neiman Marcus, Stephany's Chocolates, and Leonard and Leonard contribute the gifts for the ladies. Last Sunday was the 16th special Mother's Day at Strings and with Volunteers of America.
