Freshness the name of the game at farmer's market
Contributed by: Kristin Morin/YourHub.com on 7/8/2008

Organic fruits, vegetables and even hot dogs are just some of the favorites at Tamarac Square Farmer's Market.

"We hope that more people support local farms," David Lauman, of Denver, said.

Lauman shopped the market July 7 with Fabiola Castro, picking up peanuts, melons and plums.

Castro, who grew up in Mexico, said she remembers going to farmer's markets with her parents as a child. Lauman also lived in Mexico for a while and said the markets down there are much larger than here.

"They have everything from fruits and vegetables to goat's heads," Lauman said.

Lauman and Castro said they like to shop at the market because it has healthier food, it's a nice change of pace and they like supporting local farms.

Rosemary Petersen, of Denver, picked out numerous fruits and veggies, including some juicy tomatoes, at Mazzotti's Farm booth.

"It's hard with one person to really do it justice," Peterson said.

Peterson said she tries to limit her purchases so she has time to enjoy the food before it goes bad.

Tamarac Square Farmer's Market is open every Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at 7777 E. Hampden Ave. For more information, call 303-887-FARM.
