You're never too old to party
Contributed by: Janice Friddle on 12/26/2007

Seniors in southwest Denver celebrated the holidays with a party on December 20 at the Southwest Improvement Council., Inc. (SWIC.) Every participant received a holiday gift bag thanks to Cheryl Borgen and the Mountain View Community Christian Church. Volunteers Jane Hann, Louise Schaeffer, Bob Schaeffer and Gil Hurtado helped with party registration, set-up and decorations.

The Southwest Kiwanis club volunteered, donated time, cookies and gifts to the seniors. They brought song sheets and sang with the seniors a number of Christmas carols and then served lunch. Volunteers of America through their congregate meal program provided the meal.

"This was such a nice intimate party for the seniors," said new program director Janice Friddle. "It really captured the spirit of the season and the friendship of SWIC's constituents."

Executive Director, Jan Marie Belle explained that the Kiwanis club has been providing holiday cheer for over thirty years. When asked what her favorite moment was for 2007, Jan replied, "Watching and listening to 95-year old Max Trujillo decorate the tree. He seemed so happy to be the designated decorator."

With a new building almost ready to open, southwest seniors can look forward to more programs and fun in 2008.
