Holiday Razzmatazz Lures All Ages

Denver - The Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center, 350 S. Dahlia St., is hosting holiday attractions to draw everyone!

Shalom Baby and Shalom Family programs of the JCC will team with the Jewish Experience to present L.'C.H.A.I.M.: Let's Celebrate Hanukkah and Incredible Mitzvot from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday, Dec. 9 in the lower half of the JCC Phillips Social Hall and in the lower lobby. (The Hebrew word l'chaim means "To Life!") The vibrant agenda will wow children in preschool, elementary or middle school and parents or other family members with clever craft projects and interactive games, while musician Steve Brodsky entertains. Some crafts will be mitzvah projects to benefit organizations in the Denver community, and some will be take-home items. A food drive paired with this Hanukkah party has a goal of collecting enough nonperishable items to build a giant menorah of cans. Then the cans will be donated to a social service agency. "Experience the joy of Hanukkah and celebrating with other members of the community!" says Casee Kinna, a JCC intern helping to plan L.'C.H.A.I.M. activities. Cost including latkes is $5 per person or $20 maximum per family. Questions? Call 303-316-6336.

A Senior Holiday Luncheon will entertain elders at the JCC on Tuesday, Dec. 11 in observance of Hanukkah. Besides lively conversation, guests can enjoy sit-down service, festive table settings, traditional holiday foods, fun and door prizes. Cost is $5 per person. To RSVP, contact Elka Popack 303-316-6358, epopack@jccdenver.org. Also the center matches seniors with offers of home hospitality at holiday times year-round. Households that would like to invite a senior to share a holiday celebration - or seniors who would appreciate such an invitation - are urged to let Elka know so that she can try to accommodate these interests.

Shop the JCC for holiday gifts! The 41 st Leah Cohen Festival of Jewish Books & Authors presents a shopper's paradise and talks by nationally prominent visiting authors now through Sunday, Dec. 16. The celebration of literature and writers, organized by MAAC at the JCC, promises riveting reading, opportunities to hear authors speak about their newest works and plentiful enjoyment for book enthusiasts of all backgrounds. Books are displayed for browsing and for purchase in the Boettcher Foundation Lobby of the JCC from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday; 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday. For more details and tickets to author events, $10 each or $36 for all appearances, go to www.maccjcc.org or call 303-316-6360. In conjunction with the book festival, the Colorado Jewish Artists Guild's Hanukkah Art Mart also graces the JCC on Sunday, Dec. 9. Merchandise will include fine art, crafts, jewelry, ceramics and holiday picks.
