I Remember Mama was a memorable event
Contributed by: Jim White on 5/22/2006

For 14 years, Strings restaurant owners, Noel and Tammy Cunningham, have been opening their doors early on Mother's Day to host the "I Remember Mama" event.

This year was no exception, with 175 ladies arriving at the restaurant at 9 a.m. for an unforgettable brunch.

The event is coordinated by the Volunteers of America RSVP program and all of the guests come from the VOA Meals on Wheels program or local subsidized elderly housing.

The only prerequisite is that none of the ladies have family in town and would otherwise be alone on Mother's Day.

Kaiser Permanente underwrites some of the costs of the event and the ladies receive roses, chocolates, gifts from Neiman Marcus and free transportation to and from Strings provided by Metro Taxi.

This year the women were treated to beautiful violin music and all were invited to compete in a Best Hat contest. Thank you to the entire Strings staff for a beautiful Mother's Day!
