The Denver Paramount Theatre was visited by 450 persons on Sunday, April 13th during Doors Open Denver. The Paramount was not available on Saturday due to a concert booking. Visitors had the opportunity to tour the sole remaining tribute to the grandeur and opulence that characterized movie palace architecture in the 1920's. Architect Temple Hoyne Buell claimed the Paramount as the finest example of his work which began construction in 1929 and opened on August 30, 1930. In the Theatre lobby during Doors Open Denver was a miniature display of how a pipe organ works. Theatre tours included the projection booth containing the multiple carbon-arc movie projectors of that era and the steel enclosure to protect patrons in case of fire; the under stage area showing the majestic lifts which raise and lower, independently, the twin Mighty Wurlitzer theatre organ consoles and an orchestra platform; In the basement beneath the stage, are a large and small dressing rooms, "make-up" rooms and toilet facilities. Visitors also enjoyed seven hours of continuous nonstop majestic Theatre Pipe Organ Music from the 77 year old Wurlitzer twin console organ provided by organists from the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Theatre Organist Society. The Denver's Mighty Wurlitzer is the only remaining theatre pipe organ, west of the Mississippi, still operating in its original home.
