Celebrating 750 years of marriage
On 9/28/2006

'Twas music and magic when Christian Living Communities University Hills senior care community invited resident couples to celebrate their wedding anniversaries with a formal dinner. Thirteen couples were welcomed to tables dressed with white linens and red roses. Soft lighting and music complemented the atmosphere.

Since it is difficult for some of the couples to celebrate anniversaries with fine dining in one of Denver's many restaurants, the staff decided to bring the party in-house. A gourmet dinner, including an anniversary cake, was served. Dinner guests were entertained by well-known singer and actor, Leonard Barrett, Jr. and pianist, Ken Meyer. Barrett recently played the role of the wizard in Phamaly's theater production of The Wiz, and his magic continued throughout the evening. He good naturedly accepted requests from the audience and provided many special memories by singing songs from yesterday and today.

The longest married couple was Art and Ruth Peterson who celebrated their 66th anniversary this year. Art smiles and tells us that they met in the second grade. Some quick math computation led to the discovery that 750 years of marriage were being celebrated amongst the group. The years have not eroded the couples' devotion or desire to make an anniversary a date to be treasured. One resident beamed as she told her husband later that evening, "It was simply elegant."
