Perpetual Motion releases award-winning song

Perpetual Motion is proud to announce the release of Tom Carleno's award-winning song "Por Causa de Você" available exclusively online. This upbeat bossa nova in the style of "Girl from Ipanema" composer Jobim was entered in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition for 2007 and won honorable mention in the jazz category from a field of entrants from over 90 countries.

This song's title translated from Portuguese means "Because of You". The song is dedicated to the composer's wife and musical partner, Josie Quick, because of her being instrumental to the song's completion. Tom began writing the song in 2004, and after writing the first section hit a brick wall. They both knew it was a great beginning of a song, but couldn't find where to go next. When working on a composing project Josie pulled it out, thinking she could finish it and include it on the solo album she was working on. Even though they collaborate on the vast majority of their compositions, Josie couldn't pick up the creative thread. It was obvious that Tom had to finish it.

So Josie took it to Tom and said "You really have to finish this song, I can't do it." He replied that he's tried many times, but he just couldn't figure of what came next. He played the chord progression for Josie, who said, "That sounds like the end!" Aha! That's why it didn't go anywhere, it was the end! With that new perspective Tom wrote a middle section to go with the ending he already had, and a song was born.

Josie recognized the gem, and entered it in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition. They had never entered a song in any competition before, and on their first try placed in the top ten percent in a competition with entrants from all over the world. The completion of this song was a personal accomplishment for Tom because of an extended bout of writer's block he experienced after the death of his mother in 1995. He has since composed a song in memory of her, and continues to work on compositions for a planned solo album.
