The day he popped the question

It was the day before our second anniversary and Lane planned on taking me to the Chop House, the place where our first official date took place, or at least the first time I was willing to admit we were on a date.

He was very sly about the whole thing. He made it seem very last minute and very casual. We were set to leave the next day on a weekend vacation to the mountains with some friends so I really did not think much of our dinner plans.

We were finally sat at a very romantic table, right by the bathrooms, and began looking at the menu. We ordered calamari, my favorite, and drinks. As I was looking at the menu Lane asked me to come over and sit next to him. I thought it was weird, especially since the booth seats were made for only one person, so I replied like any normal woman would..."No, I am fine here." So then Lane takes a crumbled card out of his back pocket and hands it to me. I replied jokingly. "Nice card honey, this one is a keeper." Little did I know just how much of a keeper it would be.

So let me stop the story to fill most of you in on a little secret, and keep in mind Lane is going to kill me for sharing this, but Lane writes wonderful poems to me in the cards he gives me. And don't worry guys they are not mushy and cheesy but fun and light hearted and well I love them.

As I begin to read the card Lane asks me to read it out loud and I again say "No". Looking back I feel like such a brat but I did not know he was going to propose. I finally get to the last line which asks, will you marry me? I lower the card to see Lane holding a ring box opened with my beautiful ring in it. Of course, let us all try and remember that I am a little shell shocked right now, and I am surprised at the whole situation, so I take the box out of his hand and shut it and then I precede to hold the card over me face and cry. Poor Lane is sitting across from me like that can't be a good sign. But of course, I let out a little yes I will marry you and continued to cry.

I finally moved to Lane's booth and by that time, drinks and calamari had arrived. Lane ate the Calamari but went without the steak he was looking forward to so we could go show off the ring to friends. It was truly a surprising proposal.
