A Proposal Story
On 11/9/2006
Contributed by: Allyson Reedy on 11/15/2006

This truly is a 'story', and if you keep reading you'll see why. Thursday morning my boyfriend, Peter, woke me up and told me to pack stuff for the weekend. I had no idea where we were going, or that we were even going somewhere. He mostly did the packing while I tried to wake up, and then we got in the car with our pug puppy, Smeagol.
I knew we couldn't go far if we were taking the pug, and I was right. We drove to a beautiful cabin near Bailey. Except it shouldn't even be called a cabin because it was 3 stories loaded with a jacuzzi tub, hot tub, the works. It was incredible. The best part was that he had brought along all my favorite foods - crab legs, bacon-wrapped filet mignon, velveeta shells n' cheese - to cook for dinners that weekend. He even remembered to bring my favorite bottles of wine.
That afternoon I took a nap (sleeping comes right behind eating for me), and while I was asleep Peter was attempting to catch up to me on our NaNoWriMo pursuit. If you haven't heard of NaNoWriMo, it stands for National Novel Writing Month. It happens each November, and wannabe writers from all over the world attempt to write 50,000 words (or roughly a 175 page novel) in a mere 30 days.
When I awoke from my nap, I started to write my part of our book, and he asked me to read what he had written. I started reading and then, somehow, he worked his marriage proposal into his story. It ended with "Allyson, will you marry me?" When I looked up from reading he was right there with the ring - synthetic diamonds, of course, because I won't wear real ones. I couldn't believe he had found a ring (FYI - it is not easy to find a 3-stone emerald cut synthetic diamond ring! Most jewelers have contracts with DeBeers prohibiting them from working with non-DeBeers diamonds).
I said "Of course!" and we proceded to have a wonderful engagement weekend up at the cabin.
I guess this means you can trust me as a love columnist since I got the most wonderful man in the world to marry me!
