Greetings from YourHub.com World Headquarters. Nov. 29, 2005, was
a day like any other day here at the office: We were all working to get
the YourHub.com print edition finished before our 2:30 p.m. deadline,
making sure all the i's were dotted and the t's were crossed.
Around
noon, Charmaine, who is our Community Assistant for Columbine, Conifer,
Edgewater, Evergreen, Golden, Ken Caryl and Lakewood, announced that
she was going to walk over to the Quizno's on 14th Avenue to redeem her
sandwich punch card.
You see, Charmaine had made a commitment
to eating at Quizno's, and not just because it's only two blocks from
the office and she doesn't like to walk very far when it's cold out. A
little over a month ago, she picked up a punch card -- buy 10
sandwiches and receive the 11th one free.
We all know how
these punch cards work; most of the time, we get the first punch and
forget about them, or lose the card after a couple punches, or we don't
go back to the same restaurant often enough, and by the time we're
anywhere close to the 10 punches, the card has expired.
But not Charmaine.
Yesterday
was a day of reckoning for the Quizno's Subs franchise. I followed
along to get a photo when the whole thing went down, just after 12:15
p.m., for two reasons:
1) I think it's quite funny to make a big deal out of a free sandwich, and
2) It's what we call a "Milestone."
At
YourHub.com, we have a category called Milestones, where we want you to
share your good news whenever someone you know does something worth
noting.
Here are the categories:
Anniversaries
Awards
Birthdays
Births
Deaths
Engagements
General Milestones
General Recognition
Graduations
Holidays
Moving
New Homes
New Jobs
New Neighbor
Retirement Reunions
Weddings
Unlike
big-city newspapers, where you have to be famous, an elected
politician, or rob a liquor store to get your picture in the paper, we
set the bar at a pretty attainable level: Have a baby, move into a new
house, turn 13, or get your driver's license, and we'll make you a
little bit famous. (I admit that a free sandwich is not that
impressive, but my birthday isn't until Jan. 16, and I needed a good
example of a milestone.)

Don't know how to begin?
E-mail me here or call me at 303-892-2492 and I'll walk you through it.
Have a great day.
