Asbury Elementary kindergarten students are going way, way, way back to school. Members of the two Asbury kindergarten classes that started school in 1956 are getting together for a 50th anniversary reunion and open (school) house celebration for all former Asbury Elementary students.

Oct. 7 from 1-4 p.m., the halls and school cafeteria will be buzzing with memories and nostalgia as former students, spanning several decades, visit Asbury Elementary, at 1320 E. Asbury Ave., to tour, view old photos and reminisce. A 1956 fire truck will be on display to help recreate the era. Light refreshments will be served.

The reunion committee is compromised of Stanleigh (Snyder) Chism, Ron Grothe, Aline (Horner) Hart, Linda Littrell and Susie (Peterson) Nee -- all from the the 1956 kindergarten class. They said they organized this event to honor and contribute to Asbury because it holds such strong ties to their lives and community. Asbury was named a Denver Historical Building in 1995.

The event is open to Asbury alumni and guests. The cost is $10 per person in advance, $12 at the door and $15 per family. For more information, e-mail asburyreunion@yahoo.com or contact the reunion committee at 303-791-8408.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the school.
