Over 350 local high school students participated in the Leader's Challenge "Challenge to Serve" day this past Saturday, giving their time and talent to nonprofit organizations across the Denver metro area.
Participants in the Challenge to Serve were sent to one of over thirty different sites to do everything from walking dogs at the Colorado Humane Society, to decorating food bags at Project Angel Heart, to sorting medical supplies for Project C.U.R.E. Other beneficiaries included Girls Inc., the Bridge Project, Samaritan House, the Dolores Project, Warren Village, Urban Peak, and many more.
"The Challenge to Serve is a way for us to connect with our community and do our part to make the world a better place," says a junior from George Washington High School. "I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday."
"At Leader's Challenge we have the responsibility of shaping tomorrow's leaders," says Gil Jones, CEO of Leader's Challenge. "The Challenge to Serve is a way for us to show these kids that you cannot be a leader without giving back, whether you're a high school student or the CEO of a major corporation."
Founded in 2000, Leader's Challenge is a Colorado-based nonprofit youth program providing leadership training to high school students. Today the organization is in over 80 schools statewide and serves more than 750 students annually with its three programs.
