This Saturday, May 17, will mark the second annual Neighbors on the Hill Community Clean-up and Social. For the past two years, Neighbors on the Hill and Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods, Inc. (CHUN) have come together in a concentrated effort to clean up and beautify the neighborhoods that make up Greater Capitol Hill.
"The clean-up and barbeque this weekend is a great way for the residents, businesses, and other groups within Capitol Hill to make a positive impact on the neighborhood we love while connecting with each other and building relationships that far beyond the event itself," said Joe Burnham, a Neighbors on the Hill representative and CHUN Board Member.
If you wish to get involved, you can participate by:
1)Putting out your large pickup items by 9:00am on Friday, May 16 for free pick-up from 1-800-Got-Junk and the City of Denver.
2)Organize your neighbors to clean-up your block. Let Neighbors on the Hill know (
admin@neighborsonthehill.com), in order to combine duplicate efforts.
3)Meet us in the Denver Police parking lot at Colfax and Washington at 9:00am on the 17th for a combined cleanup effort.
4)Celebrate a clean neighborhood with us afterwards. We will have a barbeque at the CHUN Community Center (1290 Williams St., on the north side of Cheesman Park).
"Neighbors on the Hill and CHUN recognize there are two important ways to strengthen our neighborhoods - to encourage people to roll up their sleeves and get into the 'nitty gritty' work of neighborhood improvement and provide opportunities for folks to get to know each other better and strengthen the ties that bind," said CHUN Executive Director, Drew O'Connor. "On May 17, we'll be doing both."
Neighbors on the Hill Goals
•Creating a cleaner, safer and better Capitol Hill.
•Inspiring residents to have pride in and take responsibility for Capitol Hill.
•Connecting people so we become a neighborhood of front porch, balcony, and sidewalk conversations.
•Collaborating with officials from the City of Denver to meet our mutual goals.
•Acting on our values by rolling up our sleeves and participating in neighborhood action projects.
Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods is 'Preserving the Past, Improving the Present, and Planning for the Future of Greater Capitol Hill.' CHUN strives to accomplish this mission through its emphasis on historic preservation, affordable housing and homelessness, land use and zoning, and public safety. At the foundation of all CHUN does is the notion of civic participation - that we become a healthier, more vibrant community through the active involvement of the people who comprise our neighborhoods.
