On Wednesday, April 23, Denver Parks and Recreation, the Democratic National Convention Host Committee,
the Alliance for a Sustainable Colorado, and Democrats Work
celebrated Earth Day and Arbor Day by planting trees on Speer Boulevard and Auraria Parkway in conjunction with the city's ongoing Greenprint Denver strategy to plant a million trees in Denver by 2025. Overall, more than 400 trees were planted by the participants.
Mayor
Hickenlooper was
on hand to thank the volunteers and to share some interesting facts about the benefits of planting so many trees. Check out the
tree by tree Web site to learn more about the urban forest.
Then on Saturday, April 26, despite blustery winds and near freezing temps, 20 Democrats Work volunteers helped Denver Parks and Recreation plant nearly 200 trees in west Denver at Huston Park. About half a dozen of the volunteers were students from nearby Richel Middle School. After the event, volunteers were treated to a lunch catered by Whole Foods and jammed to the tunes
of a local band. Each volunteer went home with a stylish water bottle, a new t-shirt and feelings of overall contentment and peace.
