arc Thrift wraps up state's second largest food drive
benefiting Volunteers of America's City Harvest
Food prices are surging and the net result, food banks across the state are seeing a 20% increase in the number of families turning to them for help. The statistics are staggering but
arc Thrift took serious action this spring to bring relief to hungry families.
A shipment of 98 tons of food (that is 7 semi-trucks and 140 pallets) was delivered to the Volunteers of America City Harvest Food Bank. This was the 8th Annual FEED DENVER food drive by
arc Thrift and the second largest drive in the state of Colorado.
arc "Janes" and "Jameses," or call center employees, requested existing
arc donors consider making a non-perishable food contribution along with their household donations and then arc picked up all the donations from front porches throughout Colorado. This method made this the easiest and most convenient way for Coloradoans to contribute to a food drive.
On Saturday, June 28, 2008
arc delivered the enormous shipment to Volunteers of America that will provide relief to thousands of individuals and families in the coming months.
VOA's City Harvest Food Bank distributes food to over 75 local food banks, shelters and soup kitchens at no charge. This year's delivery exceeds
arc's 2007 food drive by 24 tons and demonstrates a true partnership among Colorado's non-profits dedicated to citizens in time of need.
