MAN COLLARED FOR BOOTLEGGING AFTER SELLING A CAN OF BEER
If you thought bootlegging as a criminal offense ended with Prohibition, a 34-year-old Denver man has some words of warning for you. Police arrested the man on suspicion of bootlegging after witnessing him selling beer to someone from a cooler in his car near Barnum Park, West Sixth Avenue and Federal Boulevard, at about 4:10 p.m. May 27.
$1,000 WORTH OF HANDGUNS STOLEN
An unknown suspect stole an estimated $1,000 worth of handguns from a home on the 600 block of Vrain Street, according to police reports. Police said the suspect entered the home some time between 9 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 29 but had no further information on the suspect or how the burglary was carried out.
MAN WITH WORST POLICE COSTUME EVER ROBS WOMAN
A suspect with what might be the worst police costume ever reportedly robbed a 64-year-old Denver woman at an RTD bus stop on the 8000 block of East Colfax Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. June 1. Police said the man was wearing a white T-shirt with the word "police" on it and had what appeared to be a fake yellow badge, also with the word "police." The suspect reportedly ordered the woman to empty her purse. When the woman refused, police said he demanded the woman's money, took $630 in cash and fled on foot.
THIEVES STEAL FT. COLLINS POLICE CAR, FOUND IN DENVER
An unknown suspect is in possession of police equipment after stealing a vehicle belonging to Fort Collins police, according to police reports. Police say the vehicle, a Chevy Astrovan, was parked and locked on the 1200 block of Logan Street and was stolen some time between 8 p.m. May 24 and 9 a.m. May 25. Police said the vehicle, worth about $20,000, also contained four Fort Collins police jackets and miscellaneous equipment including two police batons and a flashlight.
LARGE WOODEN FISH STOLEN
A resident of the 1000 block of N. Clayton St., reported the theft of a large wooden sculpture from a porch of the residence at 9:45 a.m. on June 5. The report said the sculpture of a fish, about 4 feet tall and 2 wide, was taken between 12:01 a.m. June 3 and 5 p.m. on June 4. The sculpture was valued at $2,000.
MAN BREAKS INTO BAR, CAN'T BREAK OUT
Somehow this burglar didn't think his brilliant plan all the way through. The homeless man kicked an air conditioner over on the roof of Star Bar, 2137 Larimer St., to gain entry to the bar at 1:50 a.m. June 29, the police report said. However, the man could not get back out and police found him stuck inside the bar a short time later, the report said.
SERIAL PARKING VIOLATOR STEALS DENVER BOOT
After racking up $230 worth of unpaid parking tickets, the owner of a Geo Metro is also now the proud owner of a $355 Denver boot, according to police reports. Officers came to tow the car after the boot had been placed on it on the 400 block of Acoma St., but the car wasn't there. After verifying the location, the boot was listed as stolen.
WITNESSES CHASE DOWN WOULD-BE CAMERA THIEF
Witnesses to the theft of a digital camera from a car downtown July 29 pursued a suspect and recovered the stolen item, police said. The theft occurred about 5 p.m. in a parking lot on the 1200 block of 17th Street. A suspect described as a Hispanic male about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds allegedly broke out a window on a 2006 Saturn owned by a Blanchard, Okla., woman and took a digital camera. He was pursued south on Larimer Street and confronted by two witnesses. Police said after the camera was recovered the suspect fled south on Larimer Street.
ANCIENT TANZANIAN TEETH STOLEN FROM UCD
Fossilized primate teeth fragments, estimated to be about three million years old were reported stolen from the Auraria campus of the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center at 1201 Fifth St., on Aug. 8. Police said a faculty member reported the teeth fragments had been stored in a locked cabinet in a research lab between 2 p.m. June 9 and when they were discovered missing on Aug. 7 at 9 a.m. The teeth were the property of the Republic of Tanzania, the report stated, and valued at about $30,000.
DON'T FALL ASLEEP UNDER A MOWER
A 46-year-old former Pueblo man, who police described as a transient, was injured Aug. 21 when his feet were cut by mower blades being pulled by a tractor used in cutting weeds on the 0-99 block of Rio Grande Boulevard. Police said the 30-year-old Denver man cutting the weeds didn't see the 46-year-old lying under some cardboard in the field before running into him around noon. The report said the man mowing stopped and called 911 after realizing the man was injured, and he was later transported to a hospital.
