BURGLARS SHOOT RETURNING RESIDENT
A 27-year-old woman was shot twice after returning to her home on the 400 block of West 43rd Avenue to find two burglars, according to police reports. Police say the woman returned at about 9:04 p.m. July 21. When she entered her home, she saw the two suspects taking her television. Police said the woman fled outside, and was pursued by the suspects, who fired at her several times, hitting her twice. The suspects fled. The woman was taken to Denver Health Medical Center by ambulance.
MAN BEATEN, ROBBED
A 21-year-old Denver man was attacked by three unknown male suspects on the 400 block of East Colfax Avenue at about 10 p.m. July 20, according to police reports. Police say the three approached the man and that one of them punched him. When the man fled, turning southbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, the three gave chase, catching the man and beating him before taking a bag with unlisted possessions inside and fleeing on foot.
BANK ROBBER LEAVES EMPTY-HANDED
An unknown male suspect attempted to rob a bank on July 21, but ran into an unexpected problem: The teller wasn't having any of it. Police say the suspect walked into the CoreFirst Bank and Trust building at 6220 E. 14th Ave. at about 12:25 p.m. July 21 and demanded money from a teller. Even after threatening use of force, the teller refused the suspect's demands, and he fled on foot. Police said the suspect did not display a weapon.
POLICE TASER HAMMER-WIELDING MAN
Police used Tasers to subdue a 60-year-old man whom they said swung a hammer at them on July 21. According to reports, officers found the man digging in a trash bin in an alley between Clay and Bryant streets. When police contacted the man, he reportedly swung a hammer at them. Police said they attempted to calm the man down verbally, but failed and resorted to using the Tasers. The suspect was taken into custody and treated on the scene by paramedics from Denver Health.
TRAFFIC STOP BECOMES ASSAULT ON COP
A 34-year-old Brighton man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer during a traffic stop, according to police reports. Police said they attempted to pull the man over on the 900 block of Perry Street at about 5:46 p.m. July 21. The suspect reportedly stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. When caught by one pursuing officer, police said the suspect turned around and punched him several times in the head, injuring the officer's ear and nose. Two officers were reportedly able to restrain and arrest him.
