Memorial Tribute to Sharon Rawles, Longtime People's Fair Volunteer on Sunday, June 7
Denver, Colo. - May 6, 2009 - The 38th Annual CHUN Capitol Hill People's Fair (voted "Best Annual City Festival of 2005 and 2006," bythe readers of
Westword and the
Rocky Mountain News) is sure to provide a packed entertainment schedule complete with jazz, blues, rock, rockabilly, pop, hip hop, funk, and more! The People's Fair is known for showcasing some of the region's best musical talent as well as providing an opportunity for new bands to make their impression on the local music scene.
This year's People's Fair will feature a memorial tribute to Sharon Rawles, longtime People's Fair Entertainment Chair. Sharon devoted many years of service in the local music scene, helping emerging musicians make a name for themselves. She also worked tirelessly to create a great musical line-up each year at the People's Fair. Sharon will be honored on Sunday, June 7 on the Main Stage at the Greek Amphitheatre, beginning at 3:30pm with a special performance by
Opie Gone Bad. This will be followed by special performances by
Hazel Miller,
Brethren Fast, and finally,
Chris Daniels and the Kings. Sharon made quite an impression on the local music scene in Denver, and there may be other celebrity appearances during the tribute. (
Full schedule follows this release - subject to change, please continue to check www.chundenver.org for updates).
"Sharon has been an integral part in the evolution of the People's Fair," said Roger Armstrong, People's Fair Director. "Because of her knowledge, guidance and passion for music, the Entertainment program of the People's Fair has become a major local music attraction. Many local acts continue to express their appreciation for Sharon and attribute their success as a direct result of her efforts."
Another new aspect of the People's Fair Entertainment this year is a new stage within the interior of the park. This stage will be located near the intersection of 14 th and Broadway, and it will be located in a shady area with an adjacent picnic area. Fairgoers can relax in the shade with food and beverages, and enjoy great local entertainment! We would like to also recognize our hard-working entertainment committee, who dedicates many hours of their time in auditioning and selecting the musical line-up for the Fair.
