Families and Friends Dig Up Lots to Do Along Streets of Tiny Morrison
MORRISON, CO - The Rooney Valley Fall Family Fun Guide is available at RooneyValleyColorado.Org and includes links to a fairly vast array of outdoor and indoor entertainment, shopping, dining, learning, exploring and leisure options in the region, come sun or come snow.
The Rooney Valley region includes Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater; Historic Town of Morrison, west Lakewood, Bear Creek Canyon, Bear Creek Lake Park, a host of trails, parks, open space and much more.
"We recommend that families and friends take the time to explore the Historic Town of Morrison," points out Amy Sherman, CEO, West Chamber Serving Jefferson County, which manages the Rooney Valley Colorado Association, which promotes tourism and economic development in the region.
"Morrison is worth exploring; there is so much more to Morrison than must its main street," says Jerry Smith, special projects coordinator, Historic Town of Morrison. The Morrison Museum of Natural History is a bright airy, family-friendly facility just up the hill from downtown along scenic state highway 8, which connects the town to Highway 285/Hampden Ave.
There are one-lane bridges, historic neighborhoods dating back to the Victorian period, the original brick schoolhouse, now a modern home, outdoor patios galore, regional bike trail connections and a whole lot more, including its fun next door neighbor, 600-acre Red Rocks Park.
Now that concert season is over, Morrison and the Rooney Valley offer a completely different season of enjoyment. With fall comes the opportunity to move through the area without the crowds of summer, but, still with a very interesting mix of international visitors.
Here are a dozen great ideas for enjoying the Rooney Valley this fall, prepared by
Rooney Valley Colorado Association:
1. Visit the Morrison Museum of Natural History. Stick your head in T-Rex's mouth; actually help expose fossils using professional tools and enjoy a light, airy museum with a super knowledgeable and friendly staff.
2. Start your day with breakfast in Morrison. Breakfast specials are as plentiful as red rock formations in this tiny town of 450 people. There's nothing like a little morning java jolt and then bolting down a trail for some outdoor exploring or shopping in the town's darling boutiques, spas and shops.
3. Park at one of Morrison's outdoor patios. We won't tell you how many outdoor patios there are in town, but, do a bit of exploring and you may be surprised how many you will find tucked away among this tiny town. Per capita, Morrison has the most patios in metro Denver, for sure! Along the way to your patio you will see a variety of charming shops, services, spas and boutiques.
4. Take the VIP Tour of Red Rocks. Every day at 10 a.m. prolific Red Rocks artist Scramble Campbell offers affordable, informative and fun behind the scenes tours of The Rocks, including back-stage insights and historic tidbits. Scrambles art is featured in the fabulous Red Rocks Visitors Center. The visitor's center is located at the top of amphitheater, which can be reached via Alameda Parkway on the north side of park, just above the tunnel.
5. Plan your day or a vacation at the Official Colorado Visitors Center. At Red Rocks Park you can find out about the wonders of the 600-acre park, the Rooney Valley region and even the whole State of Colorado. This is just one of a handful of official Colorado visitor centers and is located at the Red Rocks Trading Post.
