Denver seasonal street sweeping begins April 1st

A Reminder from Denver Public Works...
Seasonal Citywide Street Sweeping to begin in April
Show your pride and move your ride!

Citywide seasonal street sweeping begins on April 1, 2008 and we need your help to keep Denver clean! Check the red and white signs posted on your block for street sweeping parking restrictions (not every block has restrictions) so that Public Works can provide the best street sweeping service possible.

Citations for not following the posted parking restrictions on street sweeping days are $25.00. Residential streets in Denver are only swept once per month where posted, so please be sure to show your pride and move your ride according to the signs on your block!

There are two ways to help remember your street sweeping day:
The City of Denver has teamed up with MyMotorMaid.com to provide "e-minders" - electronic reminders sent via email or SMS/text message - to our citizens. Visit Denvergov.org and look for the street sweeper on the home page. Click on the sweeper and then on the MyMotorMaid.com link. From there simply click on the Denver "D" logo to sign up for your e-minder. Be sure that you know what day of the week your street sweeping day falls on (for example, "the 3rd Thursday of the month"), so that you can enter it on your reminder sign-up. MyMotorMaid.com never sells, transfers or otherwise distributes your information; it is only used to remind you of your sweeping day. This is a free service.

Call Denver's customer service line, 311, and request the "How Not to Get a Parking Ticket" brochure written in both English and Spanish. The brochure includes "No Parking" stickers for your calendar, or request one on-line at http://www.denvergov.org/StreetSweeping/tabid/426230/Default.aspx

Other ways to help include trimming low hanging branches on your street - the sweepers are 10.6 feet high, and the trucks that accompany them are 12 feet high. We also appreciate it when residents remove items from the curb on street sweeping days. Trash and recycling bins can be set off the street on the apron of your driveway or on the curb as close to the street as possible, but not on the sidewalk.

Denver Public Works Street Maintenance Street Sweeping Program removes dirt, leaves and debris from City streets, reducing air and water pollution and providing a clean environment. Street sweeping plays a critical role in keeping Denver's streets, air and water clean. Last year, an estimated 38,689 cubic yards of debris was removed from Denver streets, covering a total of 82,043 miles of street, enough to fill up 400 railroad cars. This is an average of 35 gallon trash can every time we sweep your block.

Denver Public Works Street Sweeping program consists of 26 street sweepers (plus four backup units) and 12 dump trucks. The sweepers simultaneously spray water while rotating brooms sweep debris and dust up into the unit. The sweeper itself weighs over seven tons and the hopper holds an average of three cubic yards of debris. When the hopper is full, the contents are transferred to a dump truck to be taken to the landfill.

Denver's Public Works Street Maintenance division is responsible for maintaining safe and usable streets and alleys in the City and County of Denver. Services provided by Street Maintenance include pavement profiling and resurfacing, asphalt patching, street sweeping, and snow and ice control.
Denver's Public Works is a diverse department that shares one common goal, improving the quality of life in Denver.
