8 to 24 inches of snow could be on its way to Castle Rock between tonight and Thursday

Castle Rock's road crews are ready for the significant winter storm that's predicted to impact northern Colorado tonight through Thursday.

The precipitation is expected to start tonight as rain and to switch over to snow after midnight. Up to 3 inches of snow could fall in Castle Rock by tomorrow morning, according to forecasts.
All the Town's snowplows were ready to go Tuesday. Snowplow drivers were to start clearing roads at 2 a.m. Wednesday and to continue working around the clock until the snow removal is done.
A winter storm warning will be in effect in Castle Rock from midnight Tuesday until 6 p.m. Thursday. Forecasts are predicting anywhere from 8 to 24 inches will fall in Castle Rock by the time the storm system blows out of the area Thursday night. Up to 3 feet of snow is expected in some foothills areas.
Snow during the day Wednesday is expected to be moderate to heavy at times, with areas of blowing and drifting that will result in reduced visibilities and blizzard-like conditions. Snow is expected to accumulate on all surfaces, and snow-packed and icy conditions likely will persist through Thursday. Travel is likely to become hazardous or impossible.
The Town is expecting to send snowplows into Castle Rock neighborhoods for this early season storm because more than 8 inches of accumulations are predicted.
Also, Town Police and Fire personnel are on alert and prepared to respond to any storm-related emergencies such as increased accidents.
The Colorado Department of Transportation offers these tips for driving in the snow:
· Slow down; most accidents are caused by driving too fast for conditions.
· Remove ice and snow from windows, mirrors and lights.
· Always wear your seat belt.
· Leave extra room between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.
· If possible, avoid driving. Stay home until weather improves and roads clear.
The Homebuilders Association Luncheon scheduled for Thursday at Town Hall has been postponed to Nov. 5 due to the impending storm. A decision on whether to hold a Wednesday night Town meeting at Mesa Middle School for Founders Village residents will be made at midday Wednesday.

The Town will provide updates on storm-related operations Wednesday and Thursday. Check CRgov.com, facebook.com/CRgov or the Town's Twitter feed @CRgov for the latest information.
