Town crews keeping up with snow; event cancelations/delays reported

Two to 3 inches of snow had fallen in Castle Rock by the time Town offices opened Wednesday.
At least another foot of snow is expected to fall by the time the snowstorm ends Thursday.
The Town's snowplow crews were keeping ahead of the storm Wednesday morning. By 9 a.m.,
90 percent of the Town's major streets had been plowed and sanded.
The rate of snow was increasing at late morning, so the crews were planning another round of plowing and sanding on the main roads. Once accumulations warrant, plows will move into neighborhoods - likely this afternoon or evening.
The Town's free bus service, commonly referred to as CATCO, was running close to on time Wednesday morning. The FrontRange Express commuter bus service, which runs between Colorado Springs and Denver with stops in Castle Rock, was running about 1 hour, 15 minutes behind.
Castle Rock Police had received reports of minor accidents, especially along Meadows Parkway and Meadows Boulevard. Drivers should use caution, as streets in Town can be slushy and snowy.
Several Town activities and events have been canceled or postponed as a result of the storm. Morning pre-kindergarten classes and swimming lessons at the Recreation Center were canceled.
So is the evening session of Castle Rock Municipal Court, though all afternoon trials are being held. Those with evening court dates should call the court, 303-663-6133, to reschedule.
Postponed is a Wednesday night open house regarding on-street parking restrictions in Castlewood Ranch and Founders Village at Mesa Middle School. A new date hasn't been set. Check CRgov.com for updates. Also postponed is the Homebuilders Association luncheon at Town Hall originally scheduled for Thursday. It now will be held Nov. 5.
Schools and libraries throughout Douglas County were closed Wednesday due to the storm. Interstate 25 was slushy, snowy and wet in the Castle Rock area Wednesday morning. Northbound lanes of the interstate were closed north of the Denver metro area, at Colorado Highway 7, due to an accident.
The Town will continue to provide updates on storm-related operations today and Thursday. Check CRgov.com, facebook.com/CRgov or the Town's Twitter feed @CRgov for the latest information.
